Tapemasters, a leading retailer of enterprise-level backup solutions, already had a website, but it was old, slow and out-of-date. The first job was to remove the old frames-based architecture*, because it was causing 'orphaned pages' and preventing users from bookmarking specific pages of information.
Despite being full of information, the site structure was hard to navigate for the uninitiated, and did not convey the approachable ethos of the company. In consultation with the client, we mapped out a more user-friendly navigational structure, with a constant emphasis on Tapemasters' 'Call us anytime' philosophy.
The site is now easily updated by the client using Macromedia Contribute, preventing it from going out of date while we take the first steps towards implementing eCommerce functionality.

* Frames are a technique of fitting two or more pages onscreen simultaneously. Typically, one will hold the navigation, while the other stores the content. In theory, the advantage of this is that the navigation should always be visible, and because the navigation is stored in one file, changes made to the one file will be visible across the site.
In practice, frames lead to orphaned pages when search engines direct visitors to the 'content' page without the 'navigation' page being loaded. Additionally, different screen resolutions and monitor settings can lead to content becoming hidden from view, printing can be troublesome, and bookmarking specific pages is impossible. There are better techniques available that give us the benefits of frames without the drawbacks.
