Auction Lots, based in South Milton Keynes, is an organisation specialising in running silent auctions – during which people bid privately over the course of a few hours, rather than in public with an auctioneer – for charities and corporate events. Auction Lots relies heavily on technology to ensure the success of their events.
Prominent Media had already created Auction Lots’ website and tablet-based auction software, but Managing Director Dave Smith was looking for something more to edge out the competition. Using the power of software development, Auction Lots was able to introduce a new service: BidLive.net. BidLive allows auctions to run online and offline simultaneously. People use their own smartphones to make bids, and as such don’t even have to be in the same room to participate in the auction.
This meant that Auction Lots could offer their services at a lower price on account of not having to provide as many tablets. In addition, having the auction online meant that bidding could start in advance of the evening, allowing time for each item to accrue the best possible price.
